Humidor Jar

By Ron

Ever use a Humidor Jar for cigar storage? A humidor jar is about the easiest cigar storage that exists.
If you use todays cigar humidification technology, your humidor jar will work absolutely flawlessly.

Here is the most important advice when using a acrylic humidor jar. Use a Humidipak, or Boveda from the Humidipack company. Both the Boveda and Humidipak are sealed cigar humidifiers. No water or chemicals to add. The Bovedas are available in 65%, 69%, or 72%. The Humidipak in 69%. So you can choose whatever humidity level that you like. The Boveda and Humidipak are safe to lay right next too, and even touch your cigars with no worry about mold. When you first buy your Boveda or Humidipak, you will notice that they have a jelly like feel to them. This means that they have distilled water inside of the pack. When the pack shrinks down in size, and feels hard, that means your cigars have used all the distilled water in the pack, and its time to replace your Boveda or Humidipak. The Humidipak should last about a year in your humidor Jar, the Boveda even longer.

Some people use the green florist foam cigar humidifiers that are usually provided with the jar humidors. If you prefer to use this humidifier, use only a few drops of humidor solution in the humidifier. Your humidor jar is airtight, so its really easy to overhumidify your cigars. My advice is to use the Boveda or Humidipak in your humidor jar.

Last couple bits of advice is to open your humidor jar for a few seconds at least once a week to get some fresh air in the humidor jar. Also, kepp it out of direct sunlight as much as you can. Temperature fluctuations can also cause humidity fluctuations. You want to keep temperature and humidity as even as possible.

Also make sure that your humidor jar has a piece of spanish cedar on the bottom. This helps keep humidity even, and provides a nice smell for your cigars to age in. Also, make sure that the lid of you humidor jar has a gasket, and a nice tight fit. You dont want that humdity leaking out and drying out your cigars.
